Seal Up Repair Business
Independent garages are missing out on emerging revenue opportunities in the ‘dynamic gasket’ market, says Corteco.
Valve stem seals, cam seals and crankshaft seals are increasingly regarded as dynamic gaskets and they are the keys to developing a market currently dominated by Original Equipment Service providers, says Corteco.
As well as establishing the perfect seal, or separating liquid and gas environments, dynamic seals are often technologically rich. Some are even equipped with sensors that perform a wide range of tasks, such as helping to control emissions:
“Dynamic seals are nothing like the traditional 50p O-ring seals or consumables of old. They can cost anything from £5/£50 and on some high performance models, much, much more,” says Corteco sales and marketing manager Steve Jarnet. “This is where the gasket revenue streams of the future lie,” he adds.
While many independent garages continue to source these high value components from the OE supply channels, Corteco is promoting the demand for dynamic seals in the aftermarket with the support of its parent company, Freudenberg.
Freudenberg is one of the world’s major manufacturers of dynamic seals for the OE manufacturing market. As it’s distributor, Corteco can supply the depth of range, the OE quality levels and the technical support that local motor factors need in order to be competitive with the.
“Local motor factors are now making these stocks available. It’s up to independent garages to switch on and sign up to the opportunities,” says Steve Jarnet.
